The coil is the element that produces the vapor. You may have also encountered the terms atomizers or atomizer heads. They usually consist of a small spiral of metal wire, wrapped around some wicking material. Some coils use mesh, a set of connected strands of metal. The wicking material is usually cotton, but silica, ceramic fiber or rayon are also used. The coil provides resistance to the current delivered by the battery. When you activate the battery, the coil heats up and vaporizes the e-liquid in the wick.
In replacement or disposable coils, a small metal encasing contains the wire and the cotton. These coils fit available tanks and clearomizers. When ordering replacement coils, you need to select the brand of your tank and choose the desired option. You simply need to prepare the coil, by dripping a few drops of e-liquid onto the cotton.
Rebuildable Tank Coils
If you have an RTA or RDA (dripper), you need to use coil wire or pre-built coils. Building the coil for a rebuildable atomizer boils down to rolling the wire and placing the cotton according to the tank’s design.
The most common metal kinds are Kanthal and Stainless Steel (SS). You can find more information in the coil wire section.
